motrona FS340 – Flying Shear / Saw Controller (96 x 48 mm)
Stand-alone motion controller for machining on the fly: flying shears, saws, punchers and cutters. A self-optimising polynomial speed profile and closed-loop position control deliver accurate cuts on smaller machines with limited budgets.
- Incremental encoder inputs up to 300 kHz
- Closed-loop position control, 250 µs cycle; ±10 V for electric or hydraulic drives
- Set-up via free PC software; PROFIBUS via PB251 gateway

Applications in motion
Animated examples of how these controllers are used on real machines.

Application: Baking-Time Display for Conveyor Ovens
A proximity sensor scans a tooth wheel on the variable-speed belt drive, and a motrona display converts the pulses into the actual baking time in minutes using reciprocal speed measurement. Operators see the effect of every speed change immediately.
- Direct display of dwell / baking time instead of belt speed
- Simple pulse pick-up from tooth wheel and proximity sensor
- Ideal for ovens, dryers, tunnels and curing lines

Application: Simple Synchronisation of Two Belts
An encoder on the first conveyor feeds a motrona frequency-to-voltage converter, whose 0–10 V output sets the speed of the second belt drive. The two belts run in step without a PLC or complex controller.
- Encoder pulses → 0–10 V speed reference
- Second belt follows the first automatically
- Low-cost alternative to PLC-based synchronisation

Application: Conveyor Synchronisation with Indexed Position Control
A motrona synchro-controller compares master and slave encoder signals plus index marks from both conveyors and sends a 0–10 V correction signal to the slave drive. Products are transferred in exact position, for example onto a vertical shelf conveyor.
- Master/slave encoder and index sensor inputs
- 0–10 V speed correction to the drive
- Position-accurate product transfer between conveyors

Counter Applications (1): Position, Differential, Length & Distance
Four typical uses of motrona counters: precise tool-position display with analogue output to a PLC, differential (input minus output) counting of products, high-speed metre counting for wires and tapes, and measuring the distance between two rolls from two encoders.
- Position display with ±10 V analogue output
- Differential and dual-encoder counting
- High-speed length counting up to 100 kHz

Counter Applications (2): Cut Length, Roll Diameter, Torsion & Cut-to-Length
More motrona counter solutions: cut-length display with a latch input that freezes the reading, roll-diameter calculation from infeed encoder and roll impulse, shaft torsion and fracture monitoring with alarm outputs, and a simple fully automatic cut-to-length controller.
- Latch input for stable display of cut length
- Roll diameter and torsion monitoring from two signals
- Programmable outputs for run, fast/slow and ready-to-cut

Application: Digital Dancer System
An incremental or absolute (SSI) encoder replaces the wear-prone dancer potentiometer. A motrona converter or display turns the dancer position into a ±10 V tension-feedback signal with freely programmable dancer characteristics.
- Encoder or SSI input instead of a dancer pot
- ±10 V signal for tension feedback
- Programmable dancer characteristic curve

Application: Simple Frequency Multiplier
A very slow single-channel sensor signal (0.5 Hz at only 1 rpm) is converted to 0–10 V and back into a 5 kHz quadrature signal (A, /A, B, /B) using two motrona converters, giving the drive a usable feedback signal even at crawl speed.
- f → V and V → f conversion in two compact modules
- 0.5 Hz single-channel in, 5 kHz quadrature out
- Stable drive feedback at extremely low speeds

Application: Impulse Splitter & Level Converter
One RS422 encoder signal is distributed by a motrona impulse splitter to several devices, each at its required level: RS422 for drive feedback and the follower drive, 24 V HTL for the PLC and 12 V for a counter.
- One encoder serves drive, PLC, counter and follower drive
- Individual output levels: RS422, 24 V HTL, 12 V
- Eliminates extra encoders and wiring
