Outcomes
- One engineered control architecture covering logic, motion, operator interface and safety
- Clear specifications and documentation before hardware is ordered
- Reduced integration risk between components from different manufacturers
- Standardised machine software that OEMs can reuse across machine variants
Scope
Machine automation brings together several disciplines that are often sourced separately: sequence logic, motion, operator interface, sensors, safety and communications. When these are designed together, the machine is easier to commission, diagnose and extend.
NSPL’s machine automation work typically includes feasibility and cost/benefit review, formulating the control specification, configuring hardware and software interfaces, procurement, programming, commissioning, testing and training for users and maintenance staff.
Engineering approach
- Specification first. The functional requirements, I/O list, safety concept and network layout are agreed before hardware is ordered.
- Compatibility with what exists. For upgrades and line extensions, the design is checked against the existing controls, networks and spares strategy.
- Maintainable software. Program structure, naming and diagnostics are designed for the people who will support the machine for years.

Typical applications
- Form-fill-seal, cartoning, filling and capping machines
- Converting, slitting and rewinding lines
- Assembly, gluing and handling cells
- Special-purpose machines built to a customer specification

Frequently asked questions
Can NSPL supply the PLC, servo system and HMI as one project?
Yes. Integrating logic, motion and operator interface under one project is a core part of NSPL's system integration work, including configuring the interfaces between them and commissioning the complete machine.
Do you work with OEMs building machines for export?
Yes. OEMs frequently need the same control design to be supportable in several countries. NSPL can help select components with regional availability and document the design so machines can be supported after shipment.
