Draw-Wire Sensor – Operating Principle

Draw-Wire Sensor – Operating Principle

A measuring wire wound on a precision drum is pulled out by the moving object and retracted by a return spring. The drum rotation is passed via a coupling or measuring gear to a signal converter, which can work inductively, magneto-resistively or opto-electronically.

  • Measuring drum with return spring and measuring wire
  • Coupling or measuring gear to the signal converter
  • Inductive, magneto-resistive or opto-electronic conversion

Draw-Wire Sensor – Inside View

Cut-away view of a draw-wire position sensor showing its main parts: measuring rope, rope drum and spring, shaft coupling, sensor and transducer electronics with M12 connector.

  • Measuring rope with quick-release clip
  • Spring-loaded rope drum
  • Shaft/coupling, sensor and transducer with M12 connector
Draw-Wire Mechanics SZG140

Draw-Wire Mechanics SZG140

Robust draw-wire mechanics with a hollow-shaft clamping collar, so a standard rotary encoder can be mounted directly. A simple way to measure linear position and travel on machines, lifts and cylinders.

  • Draw-wire mechanics for mounting a rotary encoder
  • Hollow-shaft clamping collar
  • Mounting foot with fixing holes
